FermionIC and Tata Electronics Partner to Mass Produce India-Made Radar Chips

Bangalore (Karnataka) [India], September 12: FermionIC Design Pvt. Ltd., a fabless RFIC design company located in Bangalore, announced a strategic partnership with Tata Electronics today. This collaboration will provide advanced wafer-level testing, packaging, and post-silicon validation. The partnership is aimed at supporting the production ramp of FermionIC’s indigenously designed and fully owned 4-Channel X-Band Beamformer IC, which was created specifically for next-generation TDD Phased Array Antennas.

This FD3R4411 Beamformer IC is a groundbreaking first from India, representing a critical milestone for the nation’s semiconductor and radar technology ecosystem. By enabling the development of compact and high-performance phased array systems, this chip meets the requirements of a variety of applications, including ranging radars, imaging radars, and advanced surveillance platforms. The IC has already been adopted by a number of public and private organizations, accelerating India’s ability to create its own indigenous phased array radar solutions.

As part of this new alliance, Tata Electronics will serve as the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) partner. They will be responsible for flip-chip ball grid array (FcBGA) assembly and wafer-level testing. This partnership between FermionIC Design and Tata Electronics highlights the increasing collaboration between India’s semiconductor design innovators and their advanced manufacturing partners.

“Our partnership with Tata Electronics allows us to move this complex IC, fully designed and developed in India, from the design phase to staggered volume production on an accelerated schedule starting in Q4 2025,” said Gautam Kumar Singh, CEO of FermionIC Design. “This also ensures that almost the entire manufacturing value chain is kept within India.”
